Aaron Plessinger, R.J. Hampshire and Christian Craig to represent the United States at FIM Motocross of Nations

PICKERINGTON, Ohio — The United States will be represented by three of its highly-skilled motocross racers at the 2023 Federation Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM) Motocross of Nations, which will be held Oct. 6-8 in Ernée, France.

The 2023 U.S. Motocross of Nations team includes AMA 450 competitor Aaron Plessinger, AMA 250 competitor R.J. Hampshire, and AMA 450 competitor Christian Craig.

“After putting Team USA on the top step of the podium last year, we look forward to taking on the world once again in October as the defending champions,” said AMA Director of Racing Mike Pelletier. “We have a team that is enthusiastic to represent the United States, and I look forward to seeing what we accomplish this year.”

Team captain Plessinger will be competing on the U.S. Motocross of Nations team for the second time and will race in the event’s MXGP Class.

“It really feels great to get to be on team USA again,” Plessinger said, “and I’m very fortunate to have this opportunity to go race for my country. This is one race that I always look forward to and we have some big shoes to fill from what the boys did last year, so I’m ready for the challenge! I’ve got some really awesome teammates, a great team surrounding us, and we’re gonna go give it our all over in France!”

It will be Hampshire’s inaugural appearance in Motocross of Nations competition, and he will race in the MX2 Class.

“I’m super excited to represent my country,” Hampshire said. “I’m a proud American and will do my best to put our colors up front!”

Craig will also represent the U.S. at Motocross of Nations for the first time and will compete in the Open Class.

“I’m extremely honored to be able to represent the USA this year at Motocross of Nations,” Craig said. “Aaron, RJ, and I will do everything possible to make our country proud.”

AMA Motocross Hall of Fame Legend Roger DeCoster will again manage the U.S. team as it competes for the world championship. DeCoster, who heads up KTM, GASGAS and Husqvarna’s racing efforts in AMA Supercross and the Pro Motocross series, took part in six victorious FIM Motocross of Nations teams in the 1960s and ’70s, and is a five-time motocross World Champion.

“With our race season being the longest ever, and only having one week separating the end of the SMX and Motocross of Nations, as well as several riders who had been injured and some switching teams, it was the toughest year we have faced yet to find three riders ready to race an additional event and work together as a team,” DeCoster said. “I was very happy when we asked Aaron, R.J. and Christian about going to France — they all jumped at the opportunity to represent the USA and challenge the French Team on home soil, and the rest of the world. This is one of France’s most spectacular tracks. After some mixed results during the long season, they are eager to prove they have more in the tank and are excited to show it to the world. I hope the U.S. supporters get behind these three riders as they take on the Motocross of Nations in a few weeks.”

The FIM Motocross of Nations, which began in post-war Europe back in 1947, is one of the most high-profile motorsports events in the world. National teams from across the globe come together to compete for a combined score that determines the championship-winning country.

The U.S. team continues to hold the record as the all-time leader in FIM Motocross of Nations overall team victories, having won the competition 23 times — 21 of them with DeCoster managing the team. (September 5, 2023) – In conjunction with the American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) and AMA Pro Racing, the SuperMotocross (SMX) League has announced the final field of racers that will contest the inaugural SuperMotocross World Championship Playoff round this Saturday, September 9, from zMAX Dragway in Concord, North Carolina. A total of 60 athletes, split evenly across the 450cc and 250cc divisions, will tackle the one-of-a-kind track layout currently being constructed at “The Bellagio of Dragstrips” for the first of three postseason races. Live broadcast coverage from Playoff 1 will be featured on USA Network, beginning at 12 p.m. PT / 3 p.m. ET, with live, extended streaming coverage on Peacock, beginning with Race Day Live at 6:30 a.m. PT / 9:30 a.m. ET. Additionally, international coverage will continue to stream exclusively via SuperMotocross Video Pass.
 
During an exclusive virtual press conference with the media on Tuesday morning, hosted in conjunction with NBC Sports, SMX personnel confirmed the final entry list for each respective class of competition. The top 20 points earners in the 450cc and 250cc divisions from the regular season have secured seeds into the Main Event Motos at Playoff 1, Playoff 2, and Final, and will enter the opening race at zMAX Dragway with points based on their finishing position in the regular season standings. The top seed in each respective class, the Team Honda HRC duo of Chase Sexton (450cc) and Hunter Lawrence (250cc), will lead the field into action with 25 points apiece.

NBC Sports’ Leigh Diffey, play-by-play announcer for the Finals in Los Angeles said, « If you put it in terms of the NFL, unless your team wins the Super Bowl you’re hanging onto the divisional champion or conference champion, but nobody remembers that, they only remember the Super Bowl Champion and that’s where we’re at now with SuperMotocross and that’s how this will resonate around the world….regarding international riders around the world coming here to compete, they know in order to be regarded as the best in the world this is the series they need to compete in. » 

Due to various circumstances across each division, the seeded field has been adjusted to reflect the current status of each athlete. In the 450cc class, Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing’s Eli Tomac will be forced to forgo the SMX Playoffs as he continues to recover from a ruptured achilles suffered earlier this season. As a result, the seeded premier class field will consist of 19 racers and will in turn provide three transfer positions out of the Last Chance Qualifier (LCQ). In the 250cc class, Team Honda HRC’s Jett Lawrence will contest the 450cc division as the third seed and will forgo his spot in the 250cc field. An additional vacancy will come from Team Honda HRC rookie Chance Hymas, who continues his recovery from a torn ACL suffered this summer. With the absence of two seeds, the 250cc class will provide four transfer positions out of the LCQ. Athletes occupying positions 21 through 30 in the regular season standings automatically earn positions in the LCQ for each class at each respective playoff round. However, additional confirmations for the final SMX entry list have seen the group of LCQ participants expand in each division. In the 450cc class, injuries and other factors have led to notable exceptions that include Jose Butron (21st), Christian Craig (22nd), Lorenzo Locurcio (24th), Benny Bloss (28th), Romain Pape (29th), and Joey Savatgy (30th). MURRIETA, Calif. – Red Bull KTM Factory Racing and Aaron Plessinger will extend their partnership through the 2024 SuperMotocross World Championship (SMX) season, aiming to further establish themselves in title contention together.

The 27-year-old fan favorite will be back in orange for his third-straight year onboard the KTM 450 SX-F FACTORY EDITION, continuing in the AMA Supercross Championship and Pro Motocross Championship, as well as the three-race SMX Finals series.

ELLENTON, Fla., (August 8, 2023) – On the heels of the most prestigious amateur national motocross event in the world coming to a close this past weekend (Monster Energy AMA Amateur National Motocross Championship), the SuperMotocross League announced today that three different classes of amateurs will be featured in the upcoming SuperMotocross World Championship Finals.

The 65 World All-Stars Class (ages 7-11) will compete at zMAX Dragway at Charlotte Motor Speedway in Concord, N.C. on Saturday, September 9. The Supermini World All-Stars (ages 12-16) will compete at Chicagoland Speedway in Joliet, Ill. on Saturday, September 16 and the 250 World All-Stars (ages 14+) will compete at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum in Los Angeles, Calif. on Saturday, September 23.

Each class will front a full 22 athlete starting gate and competitors will be hand selected from around the world by each Original Equipment Manufacturer (GASGAS, Honda, Husqvarna, Kawasaki, KTM, Suzuki, Yamaha, and Cobra), competing in the SMX World Championship.  

Just like their pro counterparts, amateur competitors in all three classes will have two free practice sessions on Friday to learn the SMX track. Then, Saturday’s schedule will include two 10-minute qualifying sessions for gate picks, followed by an 8-minute, plus one lap Main Event that will take place during the afternoon (Charlotte) or evening program (Chicago, Los Angeles).

With three rounds left in the Pro Motocross Championship, sanctioned by AMA Pro Racing – Unadilla, Budds Creek, Ironman, the playoff picture is coming into focus. Currently, Chase Sexton tops the 450cc Class with 590 combined points (Supercross and Pro Motocross), followed by Aaron Plessinger with 516 and Cooper Webb with 451. Jett Lawrence currently sits in fifth with 400 points but could easily surpass Webb if his perfect season (16-0) continues.

In the 250cc Class, Hunter Lawrence sits firmly in the top position with 524 combined points, followed by Haiden Deegan with 465 and RJ Hampshire with 460.

Due to the expansive footprints at both zMAX Dragway at Charlotte Motor Speedway and Chicagoland Speedway, camping is available at both locations. For a truly unique SMX experience that puts fans right in the middle of everything, both trackside and non-trackside camping options are available. Round 6 – AMA Pro Motocross Championship

SOUTHWICK, Mass. – Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Tom Vialle raced his way to the top step of the 250MX podium at Round 6 of the 2023 Pro Motocross Championship in the sands of Southwick today, with teammate Maximus Vohland finishing seventh overall. 450MX front-runner Aaron Plessinger claimed consistent fourth-place moto finishes for P4 overall.

Two-time MX2 World Champion Vialle posted the sixth fastest time in the morning’s combined qualifying sessions, quickly coming to grips with the iconic sands of The Wick 338 circuit. A strong start in the first moto saw the Frenchman sit in P2, putting pressure on the leader and taking charge by the halfway mark. From there, Vialle would post a calculated ride to take a maiden Pro Motocross race win.

Moto two saw Vialle power his KTM 250 SX-F to the all-important holeshot, putting himself in a great position from the outset. Engaged in a race-long battle, the 22-year-old newcomer to U.S. competition would fight hard for third, which is where he finished, and that was enough to land his first-career Pro Motocross round victory. He’s currently seventh in the 250MX Championship as the series enters its second half.

Tom Vialle: « It means a lot to get my first national win! I’ve had a few tough races, so to get on the podium with an overall win is nice, as it’s been challenging to get a good feeling at all of these new circuits. I feel like we are making great progress and we’re in a good position for the rest of the season. The track here was nice, way different to Lommel and places like that, but it felt good to be back in sandy conditions, and I’m looking forward now to next weekend in Millville. »

Meanwhile, Vohland shadowed Vialle in qualifying with the seventh quickest lap-time, before posting a consistent 8-6 moto scorecard for seventh overall. That continued his string of top 10 finishes and he has managed to maintain eighth place in the standings with five rounds to go.

Maximus Vohland: « To finish inside the top 10 in qualifying and both motos showed we were consistent and the final moto result was an improvement. Myself and the team will keep putting in the work together in these middle stages of the season and I’m looking forward to getting to Millville now! »

Red Bull KTM Factory Racing 450MX entry Plessinger entered the Southwick National nursing a tweaked back, with the Ohio native showing heart as he worked his way to ninth position in qualifying. Aaron Plessinger: « Yeah, man! 4-4 on the day for Southwick – it’s alright, can’t be mad at it. I felt solid all day, the first moto I struggled with comfort a little bit, and then for the second moto we made really good changes, but I just struggled a little bit with my body in that one. Super-rough track today – it was a hot one out here – but my back is slowly improving, so the aim is to land on the podium again at Spring Creek next weekend. »

MURRIETA, Calif. – Red Bull KTM Factory Racing would like to thank Cooper Webb for his achievements, commitment and determination following a highly-successful five seasons together. At this time, Red Bull KTM Factory Racing and the 27-year-old Webb have mutually agreed to part ways with immediate effect.

Ian Harrison, Red Bull KTM Factory Racing Team Manager: “On behalf of the team, I would like to thank Cooper for the years of successes we have had together. Over the past five years, we have been on the 450SX podium 52 times and of those, 21 were victories. We won the 450SX titles in 2019 and 2021, had a strong runner-up season in 2020 and finished third this year despite an unfortunate season-ending crash in Nashville.

Cooper had the option in his contract as to whether he wanted to race outdoors and he decided at Daytona that he would not compete in AMA Pro Motocross in 2023. However, following his SX season-ending crash in Nashville, Cooper reached out about racing MX and KTM agreed to support him for the summer. Both sides came into the series somewhat underprepared and a practice crash before RedBud sidelined Cooper once again.

Both Cooper and the team have decided to part ways, this will give him time to recover and then move on to the next chapter of his racing career. The team and myself wish him all the best. I will always be reminded of the success we have had together because Cooper’s championship bikes and trophies stand proudly in the KTM race shop lobby.”

Webb joined Red Bull KTM Factory Racing in 2019 and went on to clinch a first-career 450SX Championship in that inaugural campaign, before again claiming the premier class crown in 2021 onboard the KTM 450 SX-F FACTORY EDITION.

Collectively, between 2019-2023, Webb and Red Bull KTM Factory Racing amassed a total of 21 Main Event wins together in the 450SX division of the AMA Supercross Championship, as well as a single AMA Pro Motocross Championship 450MX round victory in 2019. The entire team wishes Cooper well in his future endeavors.

Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Cooper Webb will miss this Saturday’s RedBud MX National, Round 5 of the 2023 AMA Pro Motocross Championship, following a practice crash that left him pretty banged up earlier this week.

With a consistently strong start to the outdoor series, Webb currently sits third overall in the 450MX Championship standings after four rounds and the two-time 450SX Champion sits atop the SMX World Championship leaderboard early in the summer.

Red Bull KTM Factory Racing teammate Aaron Plessinger is ready to race the 50th Anniversary of RedBud MX, with teammates Tom Vialle and Maximus Vohland ready for battle in the 250MX division.

ELLENTON, Fla., (June 20, 2023) – The SMX World Championship series pays the sport’s largest prize payout of $10 million – $4.5 million is awarded throughout the Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship and Pro Motocross Championship, sanctioned by AMA Pro Racing, leaving $5.5 million to be earned through the SMX World Championship Finals, fueled by Monster Energy.

As the Pro Motocross Championship goes into its first break of the 11-round summer season, new details have been revealed regarding how the historic $5.5 million prize will be distributed across the final three rounds of the 31-event SuperMotocross World Championship.

The 450cc class SMX Champion is guaranteed a seven-figure payday of $1 million for earning the most SMX points in the three-round SMX Playoffs and Final. Second place earns $500K, third place $250K, while positions four through eight still pay in the six figures. Ninth position is worth $90K while a tenth-place finish will still earn a considerable $75K. Positions 11 through 22 range from $50K to $25K.  
 

SuperMotocross World Championship 450cc Points Fund Breakdown:

In addition to the championship points fund being awarded, each of the three events will also have an individual race purse of $404,810, the largest in offroad motorcycle racing. Athletes will earn based on their finishing position within each event. First place in the 450cc class will collect $100K, second place $50K, third $25K, fourth $10K, fifth $5K, sixth $4K, seventh $3,900 then continues in thousand dollar increments to thirtieth place, to include the Last Chance Qualifier (LCQ) competitors.
 
First place in the 250cc class will collect $50K, second place $25K, third $12,500, fourth $5K, fifth $2,700, then continues by varying amounts to thirtieth position to include the LCQ competitors.
 
For the first time in the sport’s 50-plus year history, the top 20 athletes in combined Supercross and Pro Motocross points will compete in a postseason and will be automatically seeded into the SMX World Championship Finals. Athletes who have performed well in both disciplines of Supercross and Pro Motocross, or exceptionally well in one of the two disciplines will be rewarded through a higher seeding.
 
Like traditional sports, fans can now look towards playoff scenarios by watching their favorite athlete gain additional points throughout the summer as racers vie for their position on the SMX World Championship starting gate. Every week positions are gained or lost based on the outcome of the two moto, points-paying system used in Pro Motocross. Athletes like Dylan Ferrandis and Jo Shimoda, who were sidelined for most of Supercross due to injury are now gaining valuable ground in the SMX points standings with their strong finishes in the first few rounds of the Pro Motocross series.
 
With Jett Lawrence’s move to the premier class, he is the only athlete to currently hold SMX top 20 points in both classes and is on pace to set near the top of the 450cc class standings with his exceptional debut in Pro Motocross. Lawrence is ranked 7^th in 250 SMX points and 11^th in 450 SMX points which are only going to grow with seven rounds remaining.
 
Once the Pro Motocross season concludes, all points will be tallied to calculate the top 30 positions in combined Supercross and Pro Motocross points. Top 20 competitors are automatically seeded into the three postseason races. Athletes in positions 21 – 30, plus any Supercross Main Event winners or Pro Motocross moto winners will have the opportunity to race a Last Chance Qualifier for the final two gate positions at each race.
 
The top 20 will be seeded according to their SMX points rankings. Once seeding positions are established, the points will be reset to zero and then each position will start with a quantity of points based on their seeding position using a 25-point system. First place will start with 25 points, second 22 points, third 20 points, fourth 18 points, then will continue in single digit increments to 20^th starting with two points. Positions 21^st and 22^nd will start with zero points.

The SMX World Championship Finals will feature a two-moto format for both classes as is the norm in Pro Motocross. Each moto will be 25 minutes plus one lap and will be scored using the same Olympic-Style scoring system used for Supercross Triple Crown events to determine the overall winner. For each moto first place equals one point, second place two points, third place three points, ending with 22 points for the last position. Moto scores will then be added together to determine the lowest score for the overall – 1 + 1 equals 2 points if an athlete wins both motos, ultimately producing the lowest score possible. SMX Championship points will then be awarded according to the overall finishing position for each event.
 
SMX Playoff 1 will award single points for the top 21 positions (25-1), while Playoff 2 will pay out double points (50-2). The SMX World Championship Final will then pay triple points (75-3), setting the stage for a wide-open, three-race showdown guaranteed to provide championship drama all the way to the end.
 
If a seeded, top 20 athlete is unable to compete in an event, an additional opportunity will be made available for a provisional racer to qualify through the Last Chance Qualifier.
 
All roads lead towards the SuperMotocross World Championship as Playoff 1 will take place on Saturday, September 9 at zMAX Dragway at Charlotte Motor Speedway in Concord, N.C.  Playoff 2 is set for Saturday, September 16 at Chicagoland Speedway in Joliet, Ill., followed by the SuperMotocross World Championship Final on Saturday, September 23 at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum in Los Angeles, Calif.

Murrieta, Calif. – Red Bull KTM Factory Racing will field a complete four-rider roster in the 2023 Pro Motocross Championship, featuring Cooper Webb and Aaron Plessinger in 450MX, alongside 250MX contenders Maximus Vohland and Tom Vialle when the season opens in Pala, California, this Saturday, May 27.

Marking the second stage of the inaugural SuperMotocross World Championship (SMX), which combines both the recently-finished AMA Supercross Championship and 11-round Pro Motocross Championship before the SMX post-season, all four KTM riders will be READY TO RACE when the gate drops on the outdoors.

Two-time premier class Supercross champion and former 250MX champion Webb makes his anticipated return to Pro Motocross riding the KTM 450 SX-F FACTORY EDITION at this weekend’s opening round, having sat out the series last year. The 27-year-old was in contention for a third-career 450SX crown when a crash in Nashville ended his indoor campaign prematurely, however, he has been given a clean bill of health by doctors and is excited for the challenge ahead.

Cooper Webb: « I’m extremely excited to be lining up for the Pro Motocross series. I didn’t compete outdoors last year, so this will be my first time racing it since 2021. I’m super grateful for the team and I to be able to do it together and get back behind the gate. After my crash in Nashville, I’ve been able to take some time off and get fully healthy, cleared, and ready to go. Hopefully, I have some great results with the Red Bull KTM team this summer, we’ll see where it puts us and I can’t wait to see the fans again – I’m looking forward to getting back behind the gate! »

Also in the 450MX division, 27-year-old Plessinger has been focused on taking things outdoors in recent weeks and has made significant progress with the KTM 450 SX-F FACTORY EDITION during pre-season testing for Pro Motocross. The fan favorite, who is also a former 250 Class champion, finished seventh in the standings last year and has his sights set on challenging for the title from the outset in 2023. He’s coming off a convincing runner-up result at the final round of Supercross, two weeks ago in Salt Lake City.

Aaron Plessinger: « I’m looking forward to outdoors this year. The team and I have been working hard on the bike’s motocross setting and it’s really coming around now – I like the way it’s working and it should be a good summer. I’ve been waiting for outdoors ever since Supercross started and I can’t wait to get on the gate and show these boys what I’ve got! It’s a good opportunity to get out front and try to get a taste of this red plate, so hopefully we do that at Pala and move to Hangtown with the points lead. We’ve gotta get there first and see how we stack up, but I think we can do really good this year and be title contenders – I’m excited to get going! »

After finishing sixth in the 250MX championship one year ago, Vohland is confident that he can make an additional impact this season riding the KTM 250 SX-F. In his third year with Red Bull KTM Factory Racing competing at the professional level, experience is building for the 20-year-old and he is motivated to make this year count outdoors.

Maximus Vohland: « I can’t wait to get the outdoor season started! I really like racing outdoors, especially getting to go race at Hangtown, which is my home track. I have had a reasonably successful first couple of years, going ninth in my rookie season and sixth last year. My bike is working great, so I’m definitely ready to battle up front, be on podiums, and be in the championship hunt this year. »

There will be a lot of interest in French newcomer Vialle when the gate drops at Round 1, the reigning and two-time MX2 World Champion – who lifted the crown in 2020 and 2022 – due to commence his Pro Motocross career in the U.S. At 22, Vialle successfully completed the 250SX East series and enters the outdoors at 100 percent fitness, putting him in an ideal position to showcase his capabilities in a more familiar motocross environment onboard the KTM 250 SX-F.

Tom Vialle: « We just finished Supercross racing and had one weekend off, and now we start 11 rounds of motocross racing, starting with Pala this weekend. I am looking forward to the Pro Motocross series because it’s the kind of racing that I am used to and I raced a lot successfully in Europe. It is pretty different splitting the year up between two different racing series, because in Europe we just focus on one series for a whole year. But I’m definitely looking forward to the challenge and really excited for outdoors, because obviously, that’s the racing I know best. »

It’s a welcome return to a full rider line-up for Red Bull KTM Factory Racing after being affected by injuries in the latter stages of Supercross. The combination of Webb, Plessinger, Vohland, and Vialle is a competitive one, with the team working extensively in transitioning to Pro Motocross for the upcoming summer and motivated to strengthen its position leading into the three SMX events later this year.

Ian Harrison, Red Bull KTM Factory Racing Team Manager: « I’m really glad everyone is in one piece and healthy, and that the team is able to put forward a full four-rider line-up for the motocross series given we had a turbulent last few rounds in Supercross. We have put in the hours as a team and made a lot of improvements to both our 250 and 450 motocross bike set-up during the off-season and think we are in a really good place to start the season off. The riders have done their work and all four look in good shape, so we should be ready come Pala’s opening round of the season this weekend.

Round 7 – AMA National Grand Prix Championship

DELTA, Utah. – Defending champion Dante Oliveira and the FMF KTM Factory Racing Team claimed a fourth Pro Class victory of the 2023 AMA National Grand Prix Championship (NGPC) with success in the seventh round of the season at Delta, while teammate Mateo Oliveira raced to a 13th place result in class.

Up front from the moment the race began, Dante Oliveira sat in second position behind front-runner Ryan Surratt, before a mishap allowed the number one plate-holder through to the lead on lap five. From there, Oliveira powered his KTM 450 XC-F across the grueling Utah terrain in fine form, extending his lead to 33 seconds by the time the checkered flag flew.

Dante Oliveira: « Great weekend of racing here in Utah! Got off to an awesome start, then ripped around in second for the first 30 minutes. Started battling for the lead and then Surratt got some wire tangled in his rear wheel, which gave me the lead. Had no hiccups from there, just rode smooth today and managed to take the win. Thank you to the whole team for all their work they put in! »

It was a difficult outing for Pro Class rookie Mateo Oliveira in Delta, as a promising start saw him running as high as position seven until the 11th lap of the event. A tough final few laps saw him tumble down the running order in the closing laps, with the FMF KTM Factory Racing rider crossing the line in P13 by race’s end.

Mateo Oliveira: « Last GP before the summer break. I really liked the track this weekend and was looking forward to a good result. That didn’t happen unfortunately – the speed was there, just didn’t execute on the day. We’ll get rested and then battle this upcoming weekend in Cedar City for the WORCS series. »

The weekend also saw a class victory on return from injury for last year’s champion, KTM-mounted Brandy Richards in the Pro Women category, while Kaitlyn Jacobs rounded out the podium in third position.

ROCKSTAR ENERGY HUSQVARNA FACTORY RACING EXTENDS MALCOLM STEWART CONTRACT THROUGH 2025

SET TO CONTINUE IN BOTH THE AMA SUPERCROSS AND PRO MOTOCROSS CHAMPIONSHIPS FOR ANOTHER TWO SEASONS

The Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing Team is pleased to announce that Malcolm Stewart has signed a two-year contract extension to continue in the SuperMotocross World Championship (SMX) through the 2024 and 2025 seasons, including the AMA Supercross and Pro Motocross series.

After joining Husqvarna Motorcycles in 2022, 30-year-old Stewart has underlined his podium capabilities onboard the FC 450 Rockstar Edition at the highest level of Supercross and finished third in his inaugural 450SX campaign with the brand last season.

In continuing to build upon that form earlier this year, Stewart displayed race-winning speed in the opening rounds of the new season – including leading laps at Anaheim 1 and then qualifying fastest and winning his Heat race in San Diego – before he was unfortunately sidelined in late January and underwent knee surgery.

Stewart has since continued to go above and beyond with his rehab program, determined to reach 100 percent before getting back on the bike and making his competitive return, fully supported by the Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing team in his recovery.

Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing and RJ Hampshire will continue together for the next two seasons of the SuperMotocross World Championship (SMX), inclusive of the 2024 and 2025 AMA Supercross and Pro Motocross series.

Hampshire has signed to remain onboard the Husqvarna FC 250 for the duration of this latest contract extension. The 27-year-old first joined Rockstar Energy Husqvarna in 2020, impressing to date within the program to score three Pro Motocross 250MX overall wins, a 250SX Main Event victory, and multiple podium finishes across both championships.

Despite battling various physical setbacks in the opening rounds of 250SX West this season, Hampshire holds second position in the standings as he looks to complete the remaining rounds in the best possible way. He also stepped up to the FC 450 at the Daytona Supercross, winning his Heat race on debut and finishing eighth in the Main Event.

After winning Race 2 and finishing runner-up overall in the Glendale Triple Crown two weeks ago, Hampshire and Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing will continue their Supercross campaign with the 250SX East/West Showdown this Saturday, April 22, in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing rider Christian Craig has begun his recovery following injuries sustained in Glendale’s 12th round of the 2023 AMA Supercross Championship, due to undergo surgery in the coming days.

The 31-year-old fell in the early stages of practice at the final Triple Crown event of the year in Arizona, dislocating his hip and right elbow, as well as breaking his arm as a result of the incident that will spell the end of his 450SX campaign.

Doctors were able to put Craig’s hip and shoulder back into place upon arrival at the hospital, however, his arm fracture will require surgery as part of the recovery process. It’s unclear when he will be fit to return, with the upcoming Pro Motocross series marking the second portion of the inaugural SuperMotocross World Championship (SMX).

« Unfortunately, I had a practice crash early in the first practice in Arizona, » Craig explained. « I ended up dislocating my hip and elbow. The doctors at the hospital were able to get them both put back in place, but I ended up breaking my arm also, and that is going to require surgery. Beyond bummed to end my season this way, but trying to stay positive and be ready to go when I’m healed! »

It is a disappointing end to his first full season in 450SX for last year’s 250SX Western Regional Champion Craig, who had been on the rise in recent weeks onboard the FC 450 Rockstar Edition. He recorded a best Main Event finish of sixth at round 10 in Detroit and won his Heat Race in Seattle, which had him positioned eighth in the standings entering Glendale

WRIST INJURY TO SIDELINE RED BULL KTM’S MARVIN MUSQUIN INDEFINITELY

MURRIETA, Calif. – Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Marvin Musquin has been sidelined indefinitely for the AMA Supercross Championship portion of the 2023 SMX World Championship as he continues to recover from a wrist injury sustained in January.

Upon returning to his home country of France earlier this month for further medical evaluations, Musquin’s surgeon determined that the 33-year-old has a broken scaphoid bone in his left wrist. As a result and considering a past injury, it has been decided that allowing his wrist time to heal naturally without rushing the process is the ideal method of recovery.

Ian Harrison – Red Bull KTM Factory Racing Team Manager: “It’s always disappointing to have one of our riders get injured so early on in the season, especially given the caliber of Marvin and the way he was riding coming into the season. But injuries happen and the last thing we want is for him to rush the healing process and return to racing too soon. We respect his wishes to seek further consultation with his doctors in France and he is now on the path to making a full recovery.”

After finishing fourth in the 450SX standings last season, Musquin started 2023 strongly at Anaheim 1 by qualifying in third position riding the KTM 450 SX-F FACTORY EDITION, before finishing 12th in the Main Event. He was unfortunately injured while training before San Diego’s second round, in what marks his 12th year together with Red Bull KTM Factory Racing in the U.S.

DUE TO UNDERGO KNEE SURGERY FOLLOWING INJURY SUSTAINED WHILE PRACTICING

Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing rider Malcolm Stewart is scheduled to undergo knee surgery following his recent practice incident, confirming he will unfortunately be sidelined for an extended duration.

After claiming a career-best third in last year’s 450SX standings, the 30-year-old was exceptional in the opening two rounds of the 2023 AMA Supercross Championship equipped with the FC 450 Rockstar Edition, leading multiple laps at Anaheim 1 and in San Diego prior to being injured.

Although crashes effectively denied Stewart of claiming strong final results in the 450SX Main Event at both rounds, his performance in qualifying quickest and storming to a Heat race win at San Diego’s Snapdragon Stadium marked one of his most spectacular performances to date.

It is yet to be determined when Stewart will be fit to return to action following his recovery. In the meantime, Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing’s 450SX efforts will focus on 2023 signing Christian Craig in what is his first full season of competing in the premier class.

ROCKSTAR ENERGY HUSQVARNA FACTORY RACER WILL MISS THE START OF 250SX EASTERN SERIES

Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing team rider Jalek Swoll has successfully undergone surgery this morning (Saturday) to repair a broken bone in his arm, which he sustained during a practice crash on Friday in Clermont, Florida.

Swoll, who was slated to compete in the 250SX Eastern Regional Championship aboard the FC 250, will miss the opening round next Saturday, February 4 in Houston, Texas. Details of his recovery time have not yet been determined.

The news comes on the heels of another unfortunate announcement from 450SX rider Malcolm Stewart, who also suffered a practice crash earlier this week. Stewart will remain sidelined until further evaluation from doctors. The Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing Team wishes both riders a speedy recovery.

Teammates RJ Hampshire and Christian Craig will return to the starting gate today in Anaheim, California for Round 4 of the AMA Supercross Championship.

RECOVERY CONTINUES FOR RED BULL KTM FACTORY RACING RIDER MUSQUIN

Marvin Musquin injury update

MURRIETA, Calif. – Red Bull KTM Factory Racing rider Marvin Musquin continues to recover from a wrist injury sustained prior to last weekend’s San Diego round of the 2023 AMA Supercross Championship.

The 33-year-old unfortunately sustained the injury while practicing and, as a result of that incident, will also sit out this Saturday’s first Triple Crown event of the season at Anaheim 2 on January 28.

It is expected that Musquin – who finished fourth in last year’s series – will at least miss the next few rounds of the season at this point, as he awaits further confirmation on the extent of the injury to his left wrist.

Marvin Musquin: « To have this injury that happened last Wednesday practicing this early in the season is not ideal. You prepare yourself for three months and to only race one race at Anaheim and get hurt is obviously disappointing. Right now all that I can do is wait and do everything I can to heal. There’s bone bruising and a bad sprain, but the time that I will be out for is a little bit unknown. I’ll go by feeling, day after day, week after week, and see how it goes. That’s all I can do right now. »

Anaheim 2 will see Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Cooper Webb enter the round positioned second in the point-standings equipped with his KTM 450 SX-F FACTORY EDITION, as 450SX teammate Aaron Plessinger currently sits ninth and Maximus Vohland is 12th in 250SX West.

Due to the recently released Pac-12 Conference college football schedule, the SuperMotocross World Championship Playoffs and Final dates are shifting. The newly released schedule now impacts the USC Trojans’ home games scheduled at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.

The Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing is proud to introduce its four-rider SuperMotocross World Championship roster entering the new season, consisting of newly signed Christian Craig and the returning Malcolm Stewart aboard the 2023 Husqvarna FC 450 Rockstar Edition, as well as RJ Hampshire and Jalek Swoll equipped with the Husqvarna FC 250.

Officially launched on Tuesday at RD Field, where the team’s practice facility is based in Murrieta, Calif., all four Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing team riders are eager for the gates to drop on the 2023 AMA Supercross season in Anaheim on January 7. From there, inclusive of Pro Motocross beginning in May, the newly introduced series will feature 31 events combined.

As the current 250SX Western Regional Champion, 31-year-old Craig will transition to the 450SX division full-time in the upcoming season with momentum on his side. He has swiftly adapted to the FC 450 Rockstar Edition upon training with Aldon Baker at the Baker’s Factory and carries high hopes into both supercross and motocross.

Malcolm Stewart, meanwhile, is set to continue his upward trajectory in what will be his second year with Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing. After finishing a career-high third in the 450SX standings this past season, complete with three podiums to his credit, expectations for the entire SuperMotocross World Championship are high for the 30-year-old rider.

Christian Craig: “This is year one on the Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing team and it’s been good so far this pre-season. I moved the whole family to Clermont and started fresh with Aldon. We went straight into bootcamp, and it’s been good so far. I’m just learning the bike, learning the program and just trying to build each day and get better. I’m getting more familiar with the bike every day and just keep grinding. Other than that, just doing the laps and getting ready for A1, trying to be as ready as possible.”

Malcolm Stewart: “I feel great going into the 2023 season with the team. I had a really good year last year for supercross and I felt like we were just getting the ball rolling. I just feel like, for me, it’s all about being consistent, as I’ve always said. I’ve got better goals for myself and I think I got some personal stuff that I know I needed to do done. Being with the team again for another year on this bike, I feel like it’s going to be a really good year, so I’m excited. I got a new teammate, Christian Craig, and I feel like he’s going hold me accountable just like everybody else that’s out there, so I can’t wait to see how we do and I think it’s going to be a great year for the Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing team.”

It will be RJ Hampshire and Jalek Swoll who lead the Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing 250 class program into the SuperMotocross World Championship series, both continuing with the team and with the goal of competing for victory in the new year aboard their 2023 Husqvarna FC 250 race bikes.

As for RJ Hampshire, this year also marks his fourth with Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing and it is shaping up to be his best yet. The 26-year-old finished runner-up in the 250SX Eastern Regional Championship with a breakout Main Event win, followed by finishing fifth in 250MX, where he also managed to stand on top of the podium. Now, he is firmly targeting to contend for championships.

At 22 years of age, Jalek Swoll enters his fourth term with the team in the professional ranks and is looking to put his experience into practice throughout both indoors and the outdoors. In 2022, he displayed top-five form in supercross and has hopes of building on those results in the 250SX and 250MX series.

RJ Hampshire: “We’ve had a really solid off-season so far since the beginning of December and I feel like we’re about ready to go. We made a lot of progress with the bike and my comfort, so looking back on last year, I know we’re in a good spot. Getting second in the championship was huge and I definitely feel like we can make a big jump forward. These guys have been working really hard ever since last year and we’re in a really good spot, so I’m excited to go racing with the Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing team.”

Jalek Swoll: “I’m really looking forward to this upcoming season with the Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing team. We’ve gotten a lot more time on the bike and have had some really good days back in Florida training with Aldon and I’m feeling good about this season. I’m eager to get back into racing with the whole team and look forward to the fun of that whole deal. I’m excited for us riders to come out swinging hard and try to re-brand ourselves this year.”

MURRIETA, Calif. – Forming the base of the newly-launched 2023 KTM 450 SX-F FACTORY EDITION, Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Cooper Webb, Marvin Musquin and Aaron Plessinger put their wheels to the dirt on Tuesday to showcase the new bike and livery in front of the press at the team’s practice facility, RD Field. Joining their premier 450 class teammates for the first official launch as a 250-class duo were Northern California native Maximus Vohland and two-time MX2 World Champion Tom Vialle, both aboard the KTM 250 SX-F.

With even more on the line than ever before with the SuperMotocross World Championship, the five-rider Red Bull KTM Factory Racing team is chomping at the bit for the new season and new format of racing. It will commence with the AMA Supercross season-opener in Anaheim, Calif. on January 7, before spanning 31 events, including the AMA Pro Motocross Championship outdoors, for the remainder of the year.

Webb, a two-time champion in the 450SX class, is back in action and looking for redemption in 2023 as a title contender this season. Since first joining Red Bull KTM Factory Racing in 2019 and claiming a maiden premier class crown, Webb has consistently been a title candidate and the 27-year-old is determined to challenge for a third championship once again.

Joining the squad for his 13th consecutive season in the U.S., French rider Marvin Musquin looks to build on his strong performance in 2022. Musquin, 32, finished fourth in this year’s 450SX standings with a Triple Crown victory to his credit, alongside six podium finishes in total, and he now looks to build upon those results in the new year.

Aaron Plessinger will return for his second season at Red Bull KTM Factory Racing. He earned a season-high of second in the Oakland 450SX Main Event and then later, upon return from injury, delivered multiple podiums in the 450MX class outdoors. The 26-year-old is now motivated to make his mark on 2023 alongside both Webb and Musquin.

Cooper Webb: “I’m really looking forward to the upcoming season. It’ll be another great year with the Red Bull KTM Factory Racing team. We had a bit of a rough year last year, but we’re looking to get things back on track for this year. The crew’s been working hard, and we’ve been doing a lot of testing. I’m back with Aldon Baker, so we’re back exactly like we were in 2021 and 2019. I’m looking forward to getting back on top this year, the goal is to go out and try to win a championship again.”

Marvin Musquin: “Right now, it’s obviously the off-season with bootcamp and hard training. The team is working hard to learn the bike even more for the second season and we still have a couple of weeks before the racing starts for 2023. We had a trip in Paris and raced – it was nice to get behind the gate and do one race, at least, before the start of the season. I’m still based in California and following the program with DV [David Vuillemin]. I really like the program and DV gets to know me a little more, so hopefully we can be better for next year.”

Aaron Plessinger: “I’m super excited for 2023, I’m ready to get back behind the gate! Supercross was cut short for me last year and I’m looking forward to getting back out there and showing everybody what I can do. The Red Bull KTM Factory Racing team has put in a ton of work to get this bike to where we need it to be for this year and I’m feeling really good on it. I’ve been back riding for a while now and I’m super stoked on my fitness and where I am on the bike right now. Only good things should come from here on out. We have three new races on the schedule this year, so I’m also really excited for that. I’m looking forward to spending the whole year with my mechanic, Jade, and getting some race wins. He deserves it. The whole team deserves it. I deserve it. We’ve been working hard, so time to let the hard work pay off. I’m just ready to get back out there and do some racing with my boys!”

On the 250 side, Max Vohland continues to gain experience in the professional ranks after claiming sixth overall in the 250MX standings this year. At 19 years of age, Vohland is excited to return to supercross for a third attempt, this year in the 250SX Western Regional Championship, and has his sights firmly set on making an impact throughout the SuperMotocross World Championship season.

Max Vohland: “I’m excited about the 2023 season. We made some significant steps forward at the end of the motocross nationals and have built on that progress in our SX testing this off-season. I’ve been putting in the work at The Baker’s Factory and I look forward to showing what we have done. My goals are to position myself as a front-runner in supercross, be a consistent podium guy for the outdoors, and to try to win the SuperMotocross World Championship.”

Making his anticipated U.S. racing debut in 2023, 22-year-old French rider Tom Vialle is eager for the gate to drop for the 250SX Eastern Regional Championship come February. Based in Florida at The Baker’s Factory alongside his Red Bull KTM teammates, the two-time and current MX2 World Champion also looks ahead to the Pro Motocross season, beginning in May.

Tom Vialle: “For me, it’s a new life. After winning the title in 2022 in MX2 World Championships, I moved to the U.S. and it was a tough decision, but so far everything has been so good. I’m training in Florida with Aldon and the group at The Baker’s Factory and everything so far, so good. I like it a lot. I enjoy riding supercross, it’s a new discipline for me so I have a lot to learn. I’m doing a good job training with the team and mechanic – everyone is really nice to me, so we’ve really moved forward. I’ve never raced a supercross here in the U.S., so I’m really excited about it. Just to go there and see what it’s going to be like to ride at night in the stadium, and to ride in front of so many fans is going to be a big thing for me. And then I will move to motocross in the summer, I am also excited for that. That will be a new challenge for me – a little bit closer to what I’ve been training for the last four years in Europe – but I’m really excited about racing both SX and MX for the first time in the U.S. For me, a lot of new things are coming and I can’t wait to start racing.”

Ian Harrison, Red Bull KTM Factory Racing Team Manager: “We are just a month away from going into the 2023 season. We’re out in California today with all the guys riding, which is nice to see them all healthy and going well. We have made some progress on the bikes and it seems like it’s working well at the moment for the riders – you never know until you go racing. We have a big team, the biggest we’ve had since I’ve been a part of KTM – with five riders. We have 250 riders on each coast, which we are excited about. 31 Race Schedule Revealed for 2023 Calendar

Introduced during an exclusive press event at the landmark Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum was the SuperMotocross World Championship qualification method, points structure, race format, distribution of the sport’s largest prize–$10 million–and the series’ media rights partner for the next five years. The 2023 SuperMotocross World Championship 31 race schedule, which features the Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship and the AMA Pro Motocross Championship, was also revealed today.

The overseeing entity of the SuperMotocross World Championship, the SuperMotocross League, will unify the unique elements of the two seasons—athletes, race teams, sponsors, organizers, and most importantly the fans—and combine the best of both forms of racing: the profound technical skill and precision needed to excel in Supercross, and the sheer speed and endurance required for success in Pro Motocross. This new form of racing is defined by what will become the world’s most challenging tracks—designed to test athletes both physically and mentally. Race teams and manufacturers will be faced with the new challenge of finding the right balance in their bike and suspension set ups, one that is best suited for combined stadium and outdoor track elements. The 2023 SuperMotocross World Championship series will feature 17 rounds of Supercross, 11 rounds of Pro Motocross, two rounds of SuperMotocross World Championship Playoffs, and then the SuperMotocross World Championship Final. The first of two playoff rounds will take place on Saturday, September 9, followed by the second playoff on Saturday, September 23–both cities and venues to be announced shortly. The SuperMotocross World Championship Final will take place on Saturday, October 14, in Southern California at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum – long credited as the birthplace of Supercross.

2023 SuperMotocross World Championship Schedule

The first of three Triple Crown events during the 2023 Monster Energy AMA Supercross season will take place at Round 4 on Saturday, January 28, from Angel Stadium in Anaheim, California, followed by Rounds 7 and 12 on Saturday, February 25, at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, and Saturday, April 8, at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona. The first of two 250SX Class East/West Showdown races will be held on Saturday, April 22, at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey (Round 14), followed by the Dave Coombs Sr. East/West Showdown on Saturday, May 13, at Rice-Eccles Stadium in Salt Lake City, Utah (Round 17).

The Western Regional 250SX Class Championship will begin at Angel Stadium in Anaheim, California on Saturday, January 7 and will feature a total of nine events before concluding on Saturday, May 13 at Rice-Eccles Stadium in Salt Lake City, Utah.

The Eastern Regional 250SX Class Championship will start at Round 5 in Houston, Texas on Saturday, February 4 at NRG Stadium. The Regional Championship will run a total of 10 events inclusive of the two East/West Showdown races that feature the best athletes from both 250SX Class Regional Championships. The final round will take place on Saturday, May 13 at Rice-Eccles Stadium in Salt Lake City, Utah.

The points structure for Monster Energy AMA Supercross and AMA Pro Motocross will remain the same throughout their respective seasons. Following the end of the Pro Motocross season, the top 20 athletes in combined Supercross and Pro Motocross points will automatically qualify to compete at each round of the SuperMotocross World Championship.

Leading into the playoffs, the points will be reset in both classes. The top 20 athletes will be seeded into the playoffs using one event’s worth of Supercross points – 26 for the regular season points leader, 23 for second, 21 for third, 19 for fourth, then single point denominations to the 20th seed, making performance during the regular season crucial for playoff position.

SuperMotocross World Championship Playoff 1 will retain the original point structure for the top 22 positions (26-1), while SuperMotocross World Championship Playoff 2 will pay out double points (56-2). The SuperMotocross World Championship Final will pay triple the points (78-3), setting the stage for a wide-open, three-race showdown guaranteed to provide championship drama all the way to the end.

The top 20 racers in combined Supercross and Pro Motocross points will be automatically seeded into the three SuperMotocross World Championship events. Gate position for the top 20 will be determined by qualifying at each event, while racers seeded 21st through 30th will compete for the final two gate positions at each round in a Last Chance Qualifier (LCQ) race.

Racers placed in 21st to 30th in combined Supercross and Pro Motocross points will still be playoff eligible and will race for the right to compete at each round of the SuperMotocross World Championship, vying for the 21st and 22nd starting positions. Additionally, any racer outside the top 30 in combined points who won a Supercross Main Event or a Pro Motocross Overall will also be given a chance to qualify for the 21st and 22nd positions at each round of the SuperMotocross World Championship. Racers entering the playoffs outside the top 20 will begin the playoffs with zero points.

The SuperMotocross World Championship playoff races and final will operate under a two-moto format for both the 450cc class and 250cc class. Each moto will be 20 minutes, plus one lap, in which Olympic Scoring will determine an overall finishing position for which SuperMotocross Championship points will be awarded. The SuperMotocross World Championship Final will also feature a SuperMotocross Amateur All-Star Race, with a single 10-minute plus one lap moto showcase featuring the world’s most high-profile amateur talent.

As announced this summer, the SuperMotocross World Championship series will boast the sport’s largest payout of $10 million over the course of the full season. $1.1 million will be added to the existing prize money already available in each respective championship. The SuperMotocross World Championship playoffs and final will have $5.5 million up for grabs, with a guaranteed $1 million going to the 450cc champion and $500,000 for the 250cc champion. Purse payout will continue to be provided to the top 40 racers in both Supercross and Pro Motocross and will be provided to the top 30 racers in the SuperMotocross World Championship.

Robertson Joins Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing 

Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing is pleased to announce that Stilez Robertson will join their powerhouse 250 team for the 2023 Monster Energy AMA Supercross and Lucas Oil Pro Motocross seasons.

Robertson turned pro in 2020 after successfully concluding his amateur career with a pair of Monster Energy AMA Amateur National Motocross titles at Loretta Lynn’s Ranch and the Nicky Hayden Amateur Horizon Award. Although it’s been a roller coaster start to his pro career with injuries that have sidelined him from a full season, the 20-year-old has shown speed up front. He notched a pair of runner-up finishes at the challenging Daytona Supercross these past two seasons and earned his first outdoor overall podium this Summer at the RedBud National. Starting in 2023, the professional racing season will expand and culminate with the SuperMotocross World Championship on Saturday, October 14 at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum in Los Angeles, California.

VIALLE TRANSITIONS TO RED BULL KTM FACTORY RACING NORTH AMERICA FOR 2023 AMA CHALLENGE2022 Motocross news

Former MX2 world champion and current 2022 title contender, Tom Vialle, will move to the North American wing of Red Bull KTM Factory Racing for the next stage of his career trajectory and will attempt the 2023 AMA 250SX and 250MX national series in the USA.

Vialle, who clinched the 2020 MX2 crown, won six Grands Prix and finished 3rd in 2021 and is currently battling intensely for 2022 honors having led the category four times from 14 rounds, will continue to blossom with the factory KTM 250 SX-F but will compete on American soil next year and for the first term of fresh contract extension inked earlier this season.

The 21-year-old has been part of the works team since 2019 where he shone in his rookie GP outing by scoring a win and classifying 4th in the final standings. He was KTM’s ninth MX2 champion the following campaign and has been a leading protagonist in the division since, routinely dominating holeshot counts and being one of the most prolific riders in the class.

Vialle is a keen and skilled supercrosser and before moving to MXGP with the KTM 450 SX-F wanted to follow the path trodden by the likes of countryman and current Red Bull KTM Supercrosser Marvin Musquin by lining-up for the two AMA 250 disciplines. Vialle confirmed his move this week and should be based near the team’s second HQ on the East coast of the United States where KTM have a close training and practicing arrangement with famed specialist Aldon Baker.

Tom’s MX2 berth will be filled by two youngsters, Andrea Adamo and Liam Everts, for 2023.

Tom Vialle: “We’ve had another strong season this year so far in MX2 and the plan was to move to the MXGP class for 2023 but I really felt this was the best time for me to try and see if I could make it in Supercross. I have a track near my home and there is a SX tradition in my family. I’m desperate to see what I can do, even if I know it is a big learning curve to be ready for 2023. We have to keep realistic, but it is fantastic at the same time that I could speak with Robert, Pit and the guys in the U.S. and to make this happen as part of Red Bull KTM. This GP team is like another family to me, so it will be hard to leave but this is a really exciting new story for me and I cannot wait to move and start it all.”

RED BULL KTM WELCOMES MARVIN MUSQUIN BACK FOR A 12TH SEASON TOGETHER IN 2023

MURRIETA, Calif. – The Red Bull KTM Factory Racing team is proud to welcome Marvin Musquin back for his 12th season with the U.S. team, where he’s set to line up for the 2023 AMA Supercross Championship aboard the #25 KTM 450 SX-F FACTORY EDITION.

Musquin’s one-year contract extension has the French rider competing exclusively in the AMA Supercross Championship for 2023, where he looks to build upon his positive performance in 2022. Finishing fourth overall in the 450SX Championship, Musquin scored six podium finishes and one Triple Crown victory during the season, and the 32-year-old is hungry for more as the stadium gate drops in just six months’ time. 

Marvin Musquin:“I’m very excited, this is exactly what I was looking for in the new season – to be part of the Red Bull KTM team – where I have been for 12 years here in America and 14 years total with KTM. It’s very special for me to still be around Frankie and the whole team, and to be based in California like I did for the 2022 season. I’m looking forward to improving the new bike even more and learning even more with more time coming up. I know that the whole team is motivated to keep on trying, never give up, and to get the KTM back on the top spot.”
