Triumph Factory Racing’s Camden McLellan has placed fourth overall at round four of the MX2 World Championship in Riola Sardo, Sardegna. Narrowly missing out on another trip to the overall podium, McLellan overcame a little adversity in both races to post a solid 6-4 result. Guillem Farres was also in good form in Sardegna; however a crash late in race two ruled out a trip to the rostrum. The Spaniard ultimately finished ninth overall.
With the team enjoying a positive start to the 2026 season, both McLellan and Farres were excited for the gruelling, bottomless sand track that hosted the fourth Grand Prix of the season. With McLellan having landed on the overall podium aboard his TF 250-X in both 2024 and 2025, the South African was certainly fired up for a similar, or better result.
Unfortunately, McLellan’s run of podiums at the notorious circuit came to an end, but not for a lack of effort. In the opening moto, the former championship leader fell on lap one and fought his way forward for the duration of the race. By the final lap, he was in sixth and on the back wheel of Julius Mikula but couldn’t make a pass stick.
Race Two was similar for McLellan. He didn’t get the best of starts but worked his way through the field and made the pass for third on the penultimate lap. Despite his relentless effort around the gruelling racetrack, the 21-year-old’s third-place finish wasn’t quite enough to secure a place on the overall podium. After four rounds, Camden remains fourth in the championship.
With his second-place finish at the previous Grand Prix in Switzerland still fresh in his mind, and winning race two there, Farres headed to Sardegna full of confidence. Much like his teammate, however, Farres fell on the opening lap of race one and had to charge through the field. At the end of a tough moto, the Spaniard crossed the line behind his teammate in seventh.
In race two, Farres started second and demonstrated his sand-riding skills to shadow race leader Simon Laengenfelder until the penultimate lap when he fell. Losing considerable time in the incident, and frustratingly missing out on an overall podium result, the 22-year-old rejoined the race just inside the top 10 and ultimately finished in 10th. On the day, Farres placed ninth overall and slips to fifth in the standings.
Up next for the team is a trip to Pietramurata in Italy for round five of the series. The circuit holds happy memories for the team and Triumph, as at last year’s Grand Prix there, McLellan secured a debut race win for both the TF 250-X and himself. The MXGP of Trentino takes place on April 18-19.

“Sunday here in Riolo Sardo is done, and overall, it was an okay day, but I made things difficult for myself. I actually had two good starts but got caught up with another rider and ended up at the back both times. In the first race I also went down on the opening lap, so I had to fight through from last up to sixth and was close to fifth but couldn’t quite make the move. The second race was similar as I started far back again and wasn’t really able to make the impact I wanted. There are some positives, but also clear areas to improve. Now the focus is on a good week of rest and recovery before Arco, which is a special place for me as it’s where I took my first win last year. I’m looking forward to going back there and I’m aiming for a strong weekend.”

“It was a bit of a frustrating weekend here in Riolo Sardo. Saturday started well with a good feeling on the track and second in time practice, which gave me a strong gate pick for the qualifying race. But a bad start and a small crash in that one meant I had to come through the field, and I eventually finished 10th. Sunday was similar in many ways. Another poor start in the first moto and a crash on the opening lap left me at the back, but I fought through to seventh. In the second moto I finally got a good start and moved into second, pushing for the lead for most of the race, but a late crash with a lapper cost me a lot of time and I could only finish 10th. It’s frustrating because the speed is there, but I just need to put everything together across the whole weekend.”
Vincent Bereni – Triumph Factory Racing Team Manager
“Round four in Riola Sardo was a tough one for us and probably our most difficult weekend of the season so far. That said, there are still some positives to take. Camden did a solid job to recover from Switzerland and bring home fourth overall, which is important for the championship. In the first moto, both riders showed great determination, coming through from the back to sixth and seventh, which really highlights their fighting spirit. The second moto was harder to take, especially for Guillem, who rode strongly in second for most of the race and was on course for another podium before a late crash. It’s part of the process and part of learning, and we’ll take the lessons from this weekend, regroup, and come back stronger in Arco.”
